The Grand Egyptian Museum is usually visited during the day. However, on 1 November 2026, a 35 minute immersive light show, titled 'Eternal Sun', will be introduced.
Unlike regular light and sound shows, this spectacular is set within the museum. Using projection mapping technology, the Grand Hall's stone walls, staircase and 11m statue of Ramesses II have come to life. The show features an original soundtrack and story told in both Arabic & English. This story revolves around the natural world, including sunrise, sunset, the annual flooding of the river Nile and harvest. This has helped shape the daily lives of ancient Egyptians throughout 5000 years of civilisation.
The show takes place each night of the week (excluding Wednesdays & Saturdays). On these days the Grand Egyptian Museum have long opening hours anyway. The English show begins at 19:30 and the Arabic show follows later the same evening. It is not advised for people suffering from Epilepsy or sensitivity to bright lights. You will be allowed to take photos on your phone however no flash or tripods can be used.
If you are visiting Cairo this winter, this is a great reason to visit the Giza area again after dark.
